Make a call for Illinois Today

At the request of the Illinois Coalition to Abolition the Death Penalty and the campaign coordinators, today, February 23, has been designated Texas for Illinois Day.

We encourage you to take a moment to call Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn between now and 5 pm CST and urge him to sign the bill that will repeal the death penalty in Illinois.  We understand that you might have made this call already and we thank you for taking action.

This is the final step needed to make Illinois the 16th state without the death penalty. The Illinois House and Senate passed legislation (SB 3539) on January 11 repealing the death penalty. Gov. Quinn has requested that people call his offices and register their opinion.

Gov. Quinn’s office numbers are:

Chicago Office – 312.814.2121

Springfield Office – 217.782.0244

When you call his offices, keep your message brief. You can say, “Hello, my name is _____ and I am calling to encourage Gov. Quinn to sign the legislation to end the death penalty”.

If you get a busy signal, please keep trying until you connect with either a person or leave a message. If anything interesting happens during your calls, please be sure to let us know so that we can pass that on to our colleagues in Illinois.

You will not be asked where you are from or to elaborate on the reason that you support repeal, but for more information you can visit the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty’s website, http://icadp.org/take_action

Thank you for taking action!
