Prosecutors are urging a judge to prevent a lawyer from testifying about her conversations with a convicted Detroit hit man.
Testimony from Gabi (GAH’-bee) Silver could help a young man show that he wasn’t responsible for four fatal shootings in Detroit in 2007. She’s expected to say that her former client, hit man Vincent Smothers, committed the killings without any help from a teenager.
Smothers is in prison for eight other murders and is releasing Silver from attorney-client privilege. A judge has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday.
In a court filing, the Wayne County prosecutor’s office says Silver’s testimony would be hearsay and shouldn’t be allowed.
The case involves Davontae Sanford, who at age 15 pleaded guilty to killing four people. Now 18, Sanford says his confession was a lie.
