Vigils and protests at the 3 planned Mississippi executions

I have just received this via e-mail. If you can help in any way, please e-mail us at and your messages will be passed along – thank you.

The state supreme court has announced three execution dates.

Benny Joe Stevens is scheduled to be executed TOMORROW, May 10th.

Rodney Gray is scheduled to be executed Tuesday, May 17th.

Robert Simon Jr. is scheduled to be executed Tuesday, May 24th.

Lawyers in all three cases are still working on appeals.
Nevertheless, these dates should be considered serious.
I know of anti-execution activity planned in Jackson (a prayer vigil at Smith Park at 5:45 p.m., an event with signs and song in front of the Governor’s Mansion from 4:45 p.m. — so commuters will know as they leave town — until about 6:15 p.m.), Hattiesburg (a prayer vigil on the steps of Sacred Heart Catholic church shortly before 6:00 p.m.), Oxford (a candlelight vigil at 9 p.m. on the courthouse square), and Parchman penitentiary (entry to the grounds between 4:00 p.m. and shortly before 5:00 p.m.).
IF YOU KNOW OF EVENTS ANYPLACE ELSE, please let me know and I’ll pass on the word.

IF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN MISSISSIPPI who is able to attend the Mississippi events, please let them know.
A sincere thanks from a bunch of Mississippians.
