Thanks in part to your amazing mobilization and effort, 650,000 signatures were delivered to the Georgia Board of Pardons & Parole, asking them to grant clemency for my brother, Troy Davis, who is slated to be executed by the state of Georgia this Wednesday despite evidence of innocence.
I hope you will help once more, this time with a letter to the District Attorney, who could also intervene in Troy’s case.
Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm can petition the judge to withdraw the death warrant against Troy. Please ask him to do so by signing here.
My family thanks you so much for your support!
In solidarity with the cause of justice everywhere,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm.
Request that Troy Davis Death Warrant be Withdrawn
I am writing to urge you to seek a withdrawal of the death warrant against Troy Davis, and to support clemency in his case. As you know, significant doubts continue to plague his conviction; doubts which will never be resolved by the courts. Executions when there are still substantial doubts about guilt should never be permitted to proceed.
Due to a lack of relevant physical evidence and no murder weapon, the evidence in the Troy Davis case has always been thin and circumstantial. The conviction was based almost wholly on witness testimony, and today we know that witness evidence is much less trustworthy than we once thought. In light of this current knowledge, the weak evidence used to convict Troy Davis appears even weaker.
For this reason, I urge you to take action to see to it that Troy Davis is not executed. A case based on such a weak foundation should never have resulted in a death sentence and should not now end with an execution.
It would significantly undermine the credibility of the Georgia system of justice if an execution were carried out under such a persistent cloud of doubts about guilt. It would show a callous disregard for the very real possibility of putting an innocent person to death, and public faith Georgia’s commitment to a fair justice system would be shattered.
You have it in your power to prevent this affront to justice from happening. I urge you to please call for a withdrawal of Troy Davis’ death warrant and support clemency for Troy Davis.
